Disney Brands Cloth Face Masks with Iconic Characters Including Baby Yoda

Gambar
SHARE TWEET As Disney darling The Simpsons* once said, and I'm paraphrasing, "The Chinese use the same word for crisis as they do for opportunity: Crisitunity." Disney has embraced that idea by finding the silver lining to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has shuttered the corporation's theme park, among many, many other concerns. The opportunity in question? Disney has unveiled their branded cloth face masks, complete with iconic characters from Disney Princesses, to Star Wars, Toy Story, and much more. That's right, you can get Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Anna and Elsa, Woody and Buzz Lightyear, The Avengers and Baby Yoda to adorn your own face mask. As Disney subsidiary ABC and their morning news program Good Morning America revealed, Disney is rolling out new character face masks along with plans to donate up to $

Octavia Spencer donates baby monitors iPads to hospitals

Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer has donated contactless baby monitors and iPads to hospitals in New York and her native Alabama to help nurses monitor COVID-19 patients' crucial respiratory functions more safely. "I, like many of you, have felt helpless in knowing how to help during this time," the actress, 47, wrote on Instagram Tuesday. "Seeing what is happening in the communities that I love, I have teamed up with @Mikucare to donate monitors to nursing and medical facilities … to provide much needed relief to nurses as they navigate care for COVID-19 patients." The Los Angeles-based Miku makes a baby-monitor that uses wireless sensors to track changes in sleep and breathing patterns, and transmit that data to smartphones and other devices. Nurses, including those at the Bronx-based Montefiore Health System of 10 hospitals, have adapted them as contact-free patient monitors.

I am a doctor treating coronavirus patients

Gambar
In addition to protecting myself at work by remaining diligent with my personal protective equipment, I also have to think about if a health emergency does arise. I am helping my patients navigate this process by thinking about goals of care, what they would want done in a health crisis. I urge them to have honest and frank conversations with their families. As visitor access becomes increasingly restricted and our medical facilities and providers are overwhelmed with patients, advance care plans give patients a voice in their care, even if a times comes when they are unable to communicate with caregivers. These directives also help ER physicians like me make care decisions quickly, which allows us to provide expeditious, quality care when it matters most. DC couple wins battle against coronavirus while welcoming a new baby

Gambar
WASHINGTON — Soon after the coronavirus hit the DMV, D.C. couple Alanna and Ben McKee both tested positive. Their biggest concern -- their new baby, Julien. Alanna said she first started noticing symptoms on March 17.  "I felt really sick, but I didn't have the classic symptoms of COVID-19," she said. "I did have a fever, body aches, chills, so more like the flu. I also had nausea, but I wasn't coughing. I didn't have chest pain. I didn't have shortness of breath, so I didn't actually think I had COVID-19." Alanna said when she woke up the next day, she still wasn't feeling well and called her doctor, who told her to get tested. "It was a scary process to go into that tent," she said. "Everyone was covered from head to toe in gear, so it felt like I was in Outbreak or in one of those scary movies…Then I woke up Thursday and felt completely fine. I thought I was 100% be

Responsive and respectful maternity care needs protection during COVID-19 crisis

Gambar
COVID-19 is sweeping the world, and the burden on healthcare facilities is growing. Stories have begun to emerge from higher-resource countries, mainly in the US and Europe, about poor experiences for women giving birth in these circumstances. Some have been denied companions such as husbands or partners during childbirth, or have had their baby taken away from them afterwards. Some may have been neglected or not given information. As the pandemic reaches into more low-resource settings, including African countries, it is likely that more women will face similar experiences. Often, in these settings, maternity care is already not what it should be: centred on people. Person-centred maternity care refers to care that is respectful and responsive to women and their families' preferences, needs and values. It includes aspects like communication and dignity. Unfortunately, disrespectful and neglectful treatment of women during childbirth, including verbal, physical and em

Small business owners gear up for another go at anxiety-inducing Paycheck Protection Program

Gambar
Millions of small business owners found renewed hope on Friday, after three weeks of waiting for some positive news, as the president signed another $310 billion over to the depleted Paycheck Protection Program, a loan program intended to buoy local businesses around the country for eight weeks. But for many small business owners, that glimmer of hope was quickly tapered by a reminder of their own experiences. After weeks of wringing their options dry as they tried to secure a loan at the same time as 1.6 million other companies, many eventually lost the race against time and watched the $349 billion program dry up. On Monday morning, the Small Business Administration will again start to accept applications for PPP loans, which can be forgiven after eight weeks as long as businesses use the money to keep employees on payroll and pay utilities. This time around, experts say the $310 billion is expected to run out even quicker than before, as nearly 1 million applications sit

The Mandalorian Star Is Protecting Season 2 Secrets as If They Were Baby Yoda

Gambar
The Mandalorian season 2 is on the way, but don't expect Pedro Pascal to ruin any of the secrets. The actor wants Star Wars fans to experience the second season in the same way that they did the first. In other words, there may or may not be some huge surprises waiting for fans this fall. The first season just premiered in the U.K. last month and Pascal was recently interviewed about his experiences on the show thus far. Now that most of the world is caught up with the adventures of Mando and The Child, what can everyone expect when The Mandalorian season 2 premieres in the fall? As it turns out, we can all expect Pedro Pascal not to say much. "They can expect me to not talk about it at all," he says. However, Pascal did go on to say that the reason he's being so secretive is, "so they [fans] can experience the second season in the same way they experienced the first - that sort of awe and surprise. It's pretty wonderful." RELATED: The Mandalor

Should You Be Putting a Tiny Face Mask on Your Baby?

Gambar
Click here to read the full article. Masks are the new normal for adults going out in public during the coronavirus pandemic, after the CDC issued its guidelines on face coverings earlier this month. But many parents have been wondering whether they're supposed to be wrestling tiny masks and bandannas onto their children, when they venture out for exercise or necessary errands. Should the same rules apply to our littlest potential virus hosts? Here's the short answer from the CDC: "Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance," reads a sentence tucked halfway down on a page about how to wear a face mask to prevent COVID-19 spread, so it's easy to understand why most of us missed it. Nationwide Children's Hospital explained further why babies should definitely not wear masks. "Baby's airways are smalle

What is Baby Yoda?

Gambar
You don't have to be a Star Wars fan to know about Baby Yoda. The adorable, green-skinned, Force-wielding toddler made his debut in the first episode of The Mandalorian, the Star Wars spinoff series that premiered on streaming service Disney+ in November. From the moment he appeared on screen, it was a quick evolution to worldwide viral phenomenon for the character, who's officially called "The Child" by the series's creative team and Star Wars studio Lucasfilm. Even after one full season of The Mandalorian, there's still plenty we don't know about The Child, who remains "Baby Yoda" in the hearts and minds of his rapidly expanding fanbase. From his origins to his home planet, plenty of mysteries surround Baby Yoda heading into season 2 of The Mandalorian. Here's what we know so far. What species is Baby Yoda? How this works.Whether you're headed to the beach or taking a walk around the block, protection from the sun is important for everyone — and that includes your baby! But your little one has sensitive skin, so picking a sunscreen isn't always as easy as it is for older children or adults. Before we move forward, it's important to note that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises against using sunscreen on babies younger than 6 months. Instead, the Skin Cancer Foundation recommends that infants are kept out of the sun entirely with umbrellas and protective clothing as they are more susceptible to the potential side effects of sunscreen, like rashes and chemical absorption, than adults.Aside from catching a nasty and painful sunburn, the harmful UVA and UVB rays emitted by the sun can lead to long term skin damage. According to the American Association of Dermatology, skin damage can start

Nationals mailbag: Baby Shark Scherzer and possible playing restrictions

Hello and welcome to another Nationals mailbag as we wait for baseball to hopefully be played in 2020. As a reminder, you can send questions to me directly at Todd.Dybas@nbcuni.com or through the mailbag portal here. Anything is on the table, so send away. On to the questions: Q. Have you gone back and re-listened to the first interview last March with Max Scherzer? I was amused to hear him talk about the happiness Baby Shark brings to everyone, long before we knew the likes of Gerardo Parra.Sarah Hais A. Well, interesting you mention this, Sarah. A little behind the scenes with that interview: I had not heard of the song prior to Scherzer mentioning it (no kids, so I had been spared to that point). He laughed about it. One of the production assistants knew the song. He asked Scherzer to sing it on camera. Scherzer contemplated and contemplated, running through the scenarios in his head. He seemed to think it was funny. He also came to realize he may never live it d

Why mother of Covid-19 positive baby tested negative

Gambar
By TONNY ABET Results for a mother of an eight-month-old baby who tested positive for Covid-19 last month, have returned negative. Health ministry officials were confused on how to protect the mother from contracting the deadly disease from her breastfeeding baby. ConcernThe concern arises from widespread information from experts about the contagious nature of the disease. Among the most alarming is Centers for Disease Control of United States last week, which stated: "Coronavirus can spread between people interacting in close proximity such as speaking, coughing or sneezing." Dr Julius Lutwama, a virologist and deputy director at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), however, says it is not just a matter of getting close to someone who is infected. He says it is about the disease getting into one's respiratory system through dirty hands or when a patient sneezes against their face."There could have been chance that the mother had been observing all hygienic practic

Parenting in the Time of the Coronavirus: Protect Your Health

Gambar
The uncertainty that has come with battling the coronavirus pandemic has been incredibly stressful for most people, especially those with children. Thousands have lost their jobs or are managing businesses that are in financial trouble. Those of us that have been lucky enough to have an income find ourselves trying to work full-time from home while caring for young children, or possibly worse, trying to work full-time while simultaneously home-schooling older children. Juggling so many responsibilities while dealing with an uncertain future can take a toll on our mental health. And on top of that, it's easy to deprioritize our own needs while trying to keep up with those of our family members and colleagues. But there's a good reason not to let your own mental health fall by the wayside: namely, that your mental health can potentially have a long-lasting impact not just on your general well-being, but on your child's as well. Hospital in Thailand Gives Newborn Babies Tiny Face Shields as Protection From Coronavirus

Gambar
Even amidst a pandemic, life goes on. That's certainly the case at Praram 9 Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, where on Thursday, two newborn babies were given tiny face shields to help protect them from COVID-19 — the diseased cased by the novel coronavirus — while they traveled home from the hospital. In a statement to TIME, the hospital explains that on Thursday the nurses had began preparing the babies to be discharged and taken home from the hospital. When the babies' mother explained that she would have to take a taxi or public transport to get home, "the nurses worried about the babies' well-being and they handcrafted the face shields," the hospital says. "The face shields were just for a short-term protection," the statement continues. The hospital adds that it does not have any pediatric cases of COVID-19. In a post on Facebook, the hospital reiterated that these face shields were for a "unique case" just for the babies' journey home f

QUARANTINE MAILBAG: Auburn baby names Pearl-era fantasy basketball and bagels

© Jake Crandall Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn talks with his team after the game during the A-Day spring practice game at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, April 13, 2019. AUBURN — One of my least favorite things about covering Auburn is that the A-Day spring game is always played on Saturday of the Masters. That's purely selfish. I just love watching the Masters. It's the best golf tournament of the year. And seeing the third-round tweets roll across my timeline while I'm watching a spring football scrimmage always hurts. I would give just about anything to be on my way to Jordan-Hare Stadium right now, though — Saturday marks a full month since the sports world shut down because of coronavirus. MORE: Linebacker K.J.
