Scalise calls SCOTUS decision on Louisiana abortion law 'failure to protect innocent life'

House Republican Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) released a statement Monday after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on a Louisiana law regulating abortion clinics. Scalise called the decision by SCOTUS a failure to protect innocent life. Chief Justice John Roberts joined with his four more liberal colleagues in ruling that the law requiring doctors who perform abortions have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals violates the abortion right the court first announced in the landmark Roe v. Wade decision in 1973. In two previous abortion cases, Roberts had favored restrictions. The Louisiana law is virtually identical to one in Texas that the court struck down in 2016.Scalise issued the following statement on June Medical Services v. Russo:"I'm extremely disappointed in the United States Supreme Court's flawed decision to strike down Louisiana's law that requires abortion providers to have admitting privileges at local hospitals when emergencies arise. BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Community members are rallying to support a family dealt a blow by the loss of Allie Guidry. A GoFundMe online donation fund says Guidry experienced complications after contracting COVID-19. She died Thursday, June 25, the fund says. Doctors were able to save Guidry's child, a baby girl named Madeline, who is preterm and being treated in a NICU, the fund says. The fund says donated money will pay for medical bills accrued for Guidry's treatment and for costs associated with Madeline's NICU stay. The money will also help cover funeral expenses for Guidry, the fund says. Donate by clicking the link here. A man who says he was Guidry's family member in a Facebook post wrote that Guidry was 29 at the time of her death. "God bless you all and may Allie find peace in His everlasting and divine presence. I also ask the Lord to provide comfort to Allie's mother, children, and fiancee. Amen," he said. WAFB makes no representations or warra

Season has brought forth a baby boom of wildlife

It's been quite a spring season for free-range children. Just the other day I was sitting in a shady patch on my driveway working on a project when two toddlers suddenly ran right up to me. I could have picked them up. A moment later there were two more, followed, I was happy to see, by a concerned adult. Seeing me, papa sounded an assembly call and the four little quail youngsters resembling walnuts with legs, dashed back to the protection of the adult bird. The brief encounter brought joy to my heart and a big grin to my face. The innocence of the little chicks and their curiosity had brought them to within inches of me. While the world has been gnashing teeth over social and health issues, nature has endured, and this spring at least, seems to be thriving. We never get enough rain in Southern California, but this year we were blessed with abundant and well-spaced storms that produced a cycle of plant growth and wildflowers and that means more insects, birds, reptiles and mam

DICKSON, Tennessee, June 26, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Knights of Columbus founder Father Michael J. McGivney will be beatified after the Vatican approved the inexplicable healing of an unborn baby as a miracle attributable to him. When Michelle and Daniel Schachle learned of Michelle's pregnancy, they prepared to welcome their thirteenth child. At an ultrasound on the last day of 2014, Michelle learned that her baby had Down syndrome. The doctors saw other troubling signs and referred Michelle for more tests. On February 25, 2015, the doctors told the Schachles that their child suffered from a severe case of fetal hydrops, a life-threatening condition of an abnormal buildup of fluids in the tissue around the lungs, heart, or abdomen or under the skin. Daniel asked the doctor for a percentage on the chances their son wo

Zika virus 'harms baby brain collagen development'

Gambar
Zika virus can hamper vital collagen development in the brains of babies whose mothers were infected with the disease while pregnant, new research reveals, as the search for a vaccine continues. Collagen is crucial to the circulatory system, as it regulates the compression of blood vessels. A large amount of the collagen found in the human brain is located inside vein tissue. The research findings could explain the deaths of babies with microcephaly, a birth defect that causes a baby to be born with a smaller head and often smaller brains that may not have developed properly. "In a previous study we saw that mothers with a rare mutation in their collagen genes had more chances of having babies with microcephaly if they got infected with Zika virus. In this study we found out the virus affects collagen-forming genes in fetuses," sa
